Re: 1886 O Rotated Reverse
There is a very incomplete list of significantly rotated dies somewhere in the beginning of the big VAM book. It is a starting point of course. I did an article on how to precisely measure the relative die rotation for Morgan dollars years ago. The follow-up article was supposed to be on extending t...

Sure. But those years are not ugly low-relief that I swear will go AU from MS if you so much as breathe in its direction.impairedsquirrel wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 4:44 pmJust wanted to make sure you know that they made Morgans in a whole bunch of different years Dennis…

Re: Past members
I try to keep up with Logan. Fogie and I were just talking a week or so ago about dropping by his place sometime. Had the time to call him the other day, but had almost no voice then (a virus that's going around). I need to call him and Jeff (as I do not plan to go to Long Beach next month also) jus...

Re: CACG Launch
That 11A is one of only a few VAMs I actively look for. Hope they made more than one. It is remarkably tough.

Re: CACG Launch
Will be interesting to see if they will even grade problem coins. The CAC elitism might not take it there. As some of you know, I have been doing early (flowing hair and bust) dollar varieties for the past few years. A HUGE deficiency at PCGS and NGC, even though they do now slab rather than do thei...

Re: SSDC Newly Formed Marketing Company Promote Silver Dollars
Didn't know there was still a VAM-e going out. I have not received one in years and do not recall seeing any uploaded to the Registry server recently.

I did report it to NGC immediately as I said. I also sent them the seller's pics and will put them here for future reference.

Re: new from Denver
It was a great show. Didn't buy coins for myself (except some Daniel Carr candy). Only picked up books on Early Halves. I have avoided them entirely as I know my personality and would end up with a hundred of them within a month. To be disciplined, I am only chasing R-5 (maybe some R-4) Overtons and...

Re: Likely Unlisted 1891-CC
If you have a VAM-3, I could send this one. (obverse confirmation) Or fogie could send two VAM-2 ones (with and without fill in the CC- same die) and a VAM-3 (as I probably need to sell this one and not have it out of pocket long). I agree that revising VAM-2 is better, especially with legacy attrib...

Re: Likely Unlisted 1891-CC
Fogie and I went over this last Wednesday in Denver. He had all of his VAMs of the date and I had this coin. It appears this has been attributed in the past as VAM-2. However, it is now known to be at odds with the listing. The obverse is completely retain to be III(2)4, same as ine obverse fie used...

Re: Likely Unlisted 1891-CC
It is possible that the reverse die was cleaned up, removing the "spit" and adding the gouges. I thought the 7 came after the 3? Exactly. I went over this quite a bit and my reasoning is a little out of sequence. Talked with fogie. He actually has a VAM-3 with him and we will be able to compare the...

Re: Likely Unlisted 1891-CC
P47037130-11-jbc.jpg Already sounds like re~classification vam3 by the description rev gets 3A TDITD That was my initial direction, except that the reverse is not the same, while similar. Dissimilar legend cracks, no leg/arrowshaft gouge on this one. Gouges in the eagle's nostril and eye, that are ...

Re: Likely Unlisted 1891-CC
The reverse is not a spitting eagle. It has a left tiled CC, nearly touching the ribbon. The second C is doubled (top). This particular stage I have has a slightly tilted field at S OF. My suspicion is that this is the coin Leroy saw and originally catalogued as VAM-2, but the doubled profile and C/...

Re: Likely Unlisted 1891-CC
The obverse is III(2)4, the same as on the VAM-3, Spitting Eagle. Near date, doubled profile, doubled ear bottom, die scratch in front of the eye and other die scratches.

Likely Unlisted 1891-CC
Didn't think I would discover another 1891-CC after I discovered the VAM-8A. But I think I do have another.
This is the coin. I will go through the details in reply posts.

I just took the lead on the complete early dollar set (by 5 points!). Better fill a couple more slots before Mike overtakes me again. Friendly competition.

Re: 1885 O VAM 25A would this be a LDS
It looks it. I had a thread on the old VAMworld on these. I discovered the VAM-25 as a DMPL and sent it to Leroy I believe with a full progression of the obverse degradation from there, at least a half dozen stages. The 25A was already listed (as 1A or something like that) at the time. I showed it w...
