Re: SSDC now more usable !

How can I find a specific date and mint mark on the VAM value guide? It is all there, but has not been opened up yet. Values need to be confirmed. The Peace dollars as well. Will this be like the Vamview price guide? Yes and no. As it presents currently, the coverage is essentially over the "list" ...

Re: SSDC now more usable !

Finally got cascading menus working. At the Registry, you will now see it as the way to find a census. The original complete menu list is still available as a form below this improved one. The only peculiarity, which might not be fixable is that the dates are ordered by the Philadelphia ones first, ...

Re: Calling ALL VAMMers - Rotated dies

I did not put in the CW or CCW designation as we all know that would just get confusing. Full slab images would be great for the rotated coins, especially inside the set designed just for them. For Morgans, I wrote an article almost a decade ago on how to precisely compute the relative die rotation ...

Re: OT - Trade Challenge

Thought I might note that the Trade listings are maintained on the SSDC Registry server. I convert them from Word to PDF and then to HTML, updating as additions or changes occur. The formatting from the original document is lost here and there but the content is all the same. Will spruce it up in ti...

Great show. Wish I could make it. Probably will be setting up at the ANA WFoM in August. Have fun!

Re: Maybe OT - Coin Shows

I did put CSNS right after than and a small Cowtown one, since I heard one of our VAM folks might be there.

Maybe OT - Coin Shows

I had stopped doing this after the February 2020 Long Beach show due to the pandemic shutting things down. But since the shows are pretty much back to regular programming, I would like to see us maintain a reasonably robust listing of upcoming coin shows. I do this on the SSDC Registry, so it is not...

Re: OT - Trade Challenge

I think a more comprehensive book is a great goal. My work perhaps could be seen more as one foundation to draw from for it rather than be it. CONECA catalogues a lot of things that aren't going to move a market like the Cherrypicker's Guide will. But the more complete listing is a valuable referenc...

Re: 1874 Trade Dollar

Where is the best place to look at examples of the different obverses and reverses and attributions ? I have been having a hard time finding anything online. At the Registry. Here is the button, but there are also links to auction appearances and images if you bring up a census for any one variety ...

Re: 1874 Trade Dollar

I am pretty certain the obverse is the I16, used on C-5 and C-11. However, both of those were paired with different reverses that do not have a dot after FINE. Yours clearly does. The C-11 was presented me at the February Long Beach show by a collector from Flagstaff who is not Brent (fogie). I was ...

Re: 77S TRADE DOLLAR

Yes, you got the attribution correct. The small s 1877-s was always overstated in its rarity. This is one that is actually a fun variety though. That break is impossible to miss. I think I registered two AU ones at the Registry and, if I recall, there were none represented in the Heritage or Great C...

Re: Peace VAM update Q1 2022

Made the SSDC Registry changes. All 1924 VAM-1K2 were moved to VAM-1K3. VAM-1K2 deleted and removed from the 1924 Peace set. There were no 1922 VAM-60 registrations. VAM-60 was removed. It was never added to the 1922 Peace set'; so no action there required.

Re: OT - Trade Challenge

I would like to pose a "Trade Challenge". The two parties involved with this squabble should talk on the phone and do this behind the iron curtain. We are. It is not as much of a disagreement as it may appear to be. BTW, I did check that 1873 VF proof. It weighs out consistent with a genuine Trade ...

Re: OT - Trade Challenge

Here is the CU forum thread. It was originally titled to discuss Willem's book, but I think I unintentionally highjacked it and the post author revised it. It might show some details of discussions of varieties, particularly ones included in the Challenge 50. There were other discussions in other di...

Re: OT - Trade Challenge

I think you, Roger, misunderstand the objective here. This was never with an aim toward a book (fame and fortune and al of that). It is to simply and as completely as possible enumerate and organize all of the dies, die pairs, and significant die states. Of course, that benefits from collaboration. ...
