Re: PCGS Frustration

I had heard that NGC was also slow lately. But I have no firsthand knowledge of that, as I have not submitted to them in probably 20 years or more. JR is probably still hammered. I did an ICG submission (my first) this year and was surprised how fast they were. They do Potty Dollars. So I gave them ...

Re: PCGS Frustration

It is not consistent either. Here are 3 orders I currently have there: 15 2022-W SAEs, 2 raw early dollars (regular service), and 3 2022-W Burnished SAEs. The last of them went from the coin prison intake exactly a month later. However, I got the grades for them a week ago. The others are slowly wor...

Re: 1878-S Trade Dollar NO Nocks

Yeah, I agree with AU. And it is often better to get an AU because if they go UNC, something that might have gotten a pass in AU will trigger a Details verdict.

OT - A Cool Trade Variety

One of the more challenging Cherrypicker varieties is the 1877 FS-101 Trade dollar. It is a DDO. But it is not as commonly understood. There is weak doubling on the wheat, but nothing particularly alarming. The right stars are all doubled with strong shifts, much more than would have been expected f...

Re: A visit with Leroy

If only the Mint had struck those 2021 Morgans/Peace in 90% silver....

Gives me an idea. I'll have to ask Carr to consider striking a clad Morgan (overstrike on Ike). Probably would be an ugly beast, but never know.

Re: bashing PCGS yet AGAIN

It is going to get to the point where VAMs are going to need VARslab confirmation stickers on the backs of the slabs to confirm the attributions (like CAC for the grades) to be market acceptable. I am sure @messydesk wouldn't complain.

Re: 75 S Trade Dollar Coin 2

The full listings are at http://registry.ssdcvams.com/Trade/ which I generally update as I update them in my full original document. I do have thousands of images and details, beyond what is in the listings. So I can look for more thingsif we identify candidate dies.

Re: 75 S Trade Dollar Coin 1

I believe this is C-25. We have C-25.1 catalogued with the break and it was expected that there was earlier production without the break. I had a bid on one such coin in an online auction that I was sure was such a piece. But I did not win it and thus could not get it in my had for inspection. I wil...

Re: 75 S Trade Dollar Coin 2

Appears to be unlisted, both dies, though one would not have the expected the reverse to have survived to be multiply paired. The date is very high and set right. There are a couple that are close but not close enough from my recollection. As for the reverse die, the right tilt for the mint mark, es...

Re: SSDC now more usable !

How can I find a specific date and mint mark on the VAM value guide? It is all there, but has not been opened up yet. Values need to be confirmed. The Peace dollars as well. Will this be like the Vamview price guide? Yes and no. As it presents currently, the coverage is essentially over the "list" ...

Re: SSDC now more usable !

Finally got cascading menus working. At the Registry, you will now see it as the way to find a census. The original complete menu list is still available as a form below this improved one. The only peculiarity, which might not be fixable is that the dates are ordered by the Philadelphia ones first, ...

Re: Calling ALL VAMMers - Rotated dies

I did not put in the CW or CCW designation as we all know that would just get confusing. Full slab images would be great for the rotated coins, especially inside the set designed just for them. For Morgans, I wrote an article almost a decade ago on how to precisely compute the relative die rotation ...

Re: OT - Trade Challenge

Thought I might note that the Trade listings are maintained on the SSDC Registry server. I convert them from Word to PDF and then to HTML, updating as additions or changes occur. The formatting from the original document is lost here and there but the content is all the same. Will spruce it up in ti...

I did put CSNS right after than and a small Cowtown one, since I heard one of our VAM folks might be there.
