I would have guessed a bone marrow extractor.

But apparently a butter pick is the correct answer
Better than a broken urethral catheter extractor.

Re: Explaination for handling and reissue of reverse dies

Carson City reused their Trade dollar reverse dies for many years. It is actually pretty crazy. Also happened, to a lesser extent, in San Francisco.

Re: 2022 Proof Morgan's and Peace Dollars

Striking 90% silver would be best. Maybe even cooler would be to strike them on the current clad alloy planchets and sell them for a buck each as pseudo-circulating currency. Would be fun to spend them.

Wrecked a Top 50 Peace Dollar

Had a raw Ch BU 1923-S VAM-1C and decided to send it to Dan Carr along with a BU 1922 Peace, a 1972-D Ike, and a Morgan below PO1 (date was gone) to overstrike for his annual Moonlight Mint Open House. He kindly struck the 1C so that the pitted N/ONE was still there. Very late state of the dies too....

Re: Here's an interesting submission

No 1885-CC would correctly be in the same submission as an 1895. Hope the submitter wasn't taken to the cleaners on the coin purchase.

Re: Yesteryear Vam Collecting/Investing

I know I am among those who lost a LOT in VAMs. The biggest driver was a huge accumulation (thousands of slabbed) and being in the very top in many of them and not selling for many years, as more were found and some VAMs lost their luster in the market. I hear it from some who do not believe you can...

Re: PCGS 2021 pops keep going up

If you expand the pops to see the subnumbers, there are a ton of [Cleveland, et al] Advanced Release ones, all graded 70. There are also curiously first day of issue and first release. None graded so far are the base number. (Just CC here, but the others open up too similarly.) 2021-CC-privy-breakdo...

Re: a WOW 2021-D error

It is in JB's (messydesk) thread on the CU US Coins forum thread where the discussion is of strike-throughs. (One of them initially looked like a crack on the plastic capsule reflected off of the coin. Not this one though.)

Re: my 2021 boxes are still unopened

My last box (3 Peace dollars) arrived today. I flipped it, unopened, right into a USPS medium Priority Mail box and shipped it to PCGS. Nice thing about online tracking is it could be anticipated and everything was prepared to do it. Won't see them until I pick the submission up at FUN except when t...

Re: long lost 79-S V41...

Is that a dot chip upper inside the upper loop of the 9? (The doubling inside left is kind of strange in shape too.)

That other obverse die is also obviously the booger one of VAM-48A. LVA was kind in calling it a "beauty mark". LOL

Looks like possibly die scratches along the rim periphery. (Are they raised under magnification?) The others look more post-minting. Were the capsules closed when you received them?

Re: 2021 Morgans and Peace Dollars - Orders are processing

CC and O are in grading. P/D/S arrived today and I will be dropping the submission off tomorrow. No news on my three Peace dollars. I did not even peek at the CC or O. Probably will briefly look at the P/D/S Morgans at the submission table. Might even take a pic or two with the phone. I also add gol...

Re: 2021 Morgans and Peace Dollars - Orders are processing

Some people are complaining about quality problems. However, increasingly, what are seen as defects (scratches in the die rather than on the coin, for instance) are identical on many coins. So there might be a variety potential in these products. Something to look for as they roll in. (Saw one, D I ...
