Re: Collector's East Coast vs West Coast

This is something that is always changing. First, many (if not most) West Coast hobbyists/dealers originally came from the East Coast or Central/Southern regions. With respect to VAMs, apart from Leroy, there was for decades the concentration of VAM enthusiasts on the West Coast. Today, some of the ...

Re: 1900-S VAM-3

There were only a few VAMs I still look for. Top of the list is 1900-S VAM-3A. I believe it is a listing error for a few reasons, but figure the imaged mint mark coin remains in the wild almost certainly raw. Additionally, just finding a VAM-3 has been a tall task. I have sought them for decades. ....

I do not believe ANACS has seen either one ever, at least last time I looked.

Re: Stolen coins

Holy crap! I'll repost the list on the PCGS forum. This stuff gets posted there now and then. Were they stolen from the mail or your car? Hope you get it all back. I talked with fogie on the phone yesterday. They were stolen from his vehicle in San Francisco (smashed the windows). He saw them but c...

Re: ? Has anyone ever seen a

I looked at a LOT of Morgans of that date. There are occasional ones with a ghost olive that could easily be mistaken for a C4 reverse. But every one of them was corroborated as the same dies as a higher grade C4/C3. Note also what VAMs for the date are not imaged in the VAM book. I suspect they wer...

Re: Silver Manipulation

As an aside. I just heard from a friend set up at the semi-annual Denver show. He sells a lot of physical gold and silver. He was wiped out of silver today, the first day of the show, at 3-5% over spot. Selling out your inventory on the first day of a show is quite remarkable.

Re: ? Has anyone ever seen a

1 & 4 (missed the slight left tilt on 1) and 2 & 5 are likely early duplicate listings. Will look for a C4 reverse of the date nonetheless.

Re: OT- Putting the cart before horse...

Even further off-topic. Years ago, a local guitar shop was going out of business. Among the many instruments I bought was a BC Rich Widow bass. But it was in soft gig bag. I wanted to make a coffin-shaped case for it but didn't have the time. Shortly thereafter, I dropped into a used bookstore and t...

Re: OT - No VAMs ANACS Grades

I do similar a lot, especially with early dollars, on eBay. Looking at the coin images, I labor over attributing them. Then I see the slab image and it is on the label.

Re: OT eBay Feedback

I feel a responsibility to leave feedback immediately after a buyer's payment has cleared. As a buyer, I do try to do so upon receipt unless there is an issue to resolve. However, when I was buying too much, receiving dozens of coins practically every day, I fell behind as a buyer. Missed leaving so...

Re: Did those attending ANA find it a good experience?

From a dealer perspective -- Registration and Set up: All worked fine with no issues for us except that there should have been power at each table. The only hassle was running the [provided] extension cords along the demarcation piping and entering another dealer's booth to plug it in. Public Addres...

Re: value on peace

Wow. I thought of you, Dom, at the recent ANA show. Wondered where you had been. Ash has primarily been working on the Morgan valuations. The Peace ones are also there but do require someone authoritative enough to have the SSDC imprimatur on them. This is something important for the Board to discus...

Re: Did those attending ANA find it a good experience?

I found it fine for what I required this time. However, as I mentioned on the CU discussion board, the ANA (and other large show organizers) need to deal better with the anchoring auctions. 1) The lot viewing was apparently off-site, blocks away. That is never acceptable. It needs to be on-premise. ...

Re: Short ANA Report

Forgot to give you the Matte Proof Lincoln book, JB, that I brought to the show. Will bring it to FUN. It's just a small booklet. Was great to reconnect with VAM friends and enjoy some good VAM discussion and viewing (without getting sucked back in). Showed off (and sold even) some cool Trade dollar...
