Re: 1880-S Listing Carnage
1881-S VAM-72A added, though it needs supporting images on the VW page here. The others in the Registry MB post need supporting VW pages before adding (and moving the 1C).

Registry changes (fogie is unavailable right now): 7A moved to 122 45A moved to 124 119 eliminated, all three registered moved to 6 - no break seen on imaged one and the Heritage auction one; the Logan one is in the wild and presumed 6, not 6A, unless shown otherwise. Andy and Brent will have to fin...

Re: can an AU55 coin be PROOF LIKE
I have had a number of pretty rare coins (some were discovery pieces) in AU PL/DMPL grades from NGC mostly but also ANACS. PCGS did lapse and did a few AU prooflike Morgans in the past, but their policy does not allow it now. An AU55|8 (DM)PL can sometimes looks more prooflike than one in MS60-62. A...

Re: Coin Divesting
There is an issue too with the absorption capacity of the market. I don't know the numbers you put out there in auction, but the retail crowd will only buy so much over a short period of time. That especially applies to specialties like die varieties. And if you have more than one example of even a ...

Re: 1878-S VAM-96
I see 3 certs in the log that were changed from VAM-96 (index=345) to VAM-43.1 (index=291). Can just identify those certs under a VAM-43.1 look-up and move them back if they are still there. Owners will still need to re-add them into the appropriate sets. +----------------+--------+-----------+-----...

Re: Another over graded ANACS coin.
Would be a fun candidate to examine with x-ray diffractometry to see if some details remain subsurface in the lattice deformation. Otherwise, nic that date.

I believe I might have sent that to Leroy years ago. Forget what I said. Will have to see if I got something on it.

Re: Trade Grades
The typical format once a reference is well known is to just use the initial then the number. In a couple of years these will likely be C numbers, but for now spelling it out answers the inevitable question about the cited reference. I find I still spell out Fortin for Seated Dimes or Briggs for Se...

Re: Trade Grades
Nomenclature question: Do you prefer COXE-n, Coxe-n, or C-n for citing your catalog? I have to admit that my name for it was at least initially alarming. The goal was to simply catalogue the varieties for the remaining US silver dollar series that remained undone. I was using the C-n format to refe...

Trade Grades
Posted from ANACS 5302060 1873 TR$ COXE-2.1 15 significantly lower grade than my estimate, proof obverse die and I believe the reverse die was as well based on a diagnostic pointed out in the Challenge 50 pdf. The proof reverse was reused for proofs for subsequent years and unlikely to have been use...

Re: PCGS Frustration
I had heard that NGC was also slow lately. But I have no firsthand knowledge of that, as I have not submitted to them in probably 20 years or more. JR is probably still hammered. I did an ICG submission (my first) this year and was surprised how fast they were. They do Potty Dollars. So I gave them ...

It is not consistent either. Here are 3 orders I currently have there: 15 2022-W SAEs, 2 raw early dollars (regular service), and 3 2022-W Burnished SAEs. The last of them went from the coin prison intake exactly a month later. However, I got the grades for them a week ago. The others are slowly wor...

Yeah, I agree with AU. And it is often better to get an AU because if they go UNC, something that might have gotten a pass in AU will trigger a Details verdict.

OT - A Cool Trade Variety
One of the more challenging Cherrypicker varieties is the 1877 FS-101 Trade dollar. It is a DDO. But it is not as commonly understood. There is weak doubling on the wheat, but nothing particularly alarming. The right stars are all doubled with strong shifts, much more than would have been expected f...

Gives me an idea. I'll have to ask Carr to consider striking a clad Morgan (overstrike on Ike). Probably would be an ugly beast, but never know.

Re: bashing PCGS yet AGAIN
It is going to get to the point where VAMs are going to need VARslab confirmation stickers on the backs of the slabs to confirm the attributions (like CAC for the grades) to be market acceptable. I am sure @messydesk wouldn't complain.
