A VAM Story
About 16 years ago I got interested in investing in silver US coinage: The typical 90% junk silver coins that have been circulating the past 100 years. My thinking was that 90% silver coins would not only have silver value but also potential numismatic value. Especially if silver values significantl...

Re: 1885 Morgan obverse die - not cancelled
Sorry for the poor picture quality - all I had was my cell phone and it had a plexiglass cover protecting the die.
Nice die break going through the "N" in UNUM. Couple of die gouges at "P" and "U" in plur. I was pretty excited to actually see it! Now for the big question - what VAM is it?

1885 Morgan obverse die - not cancelled
I know of an 1885 Morgan die obverse only that has not been cancelled (big "X" chiseled ). The owner might be interested in selling and has thrown out a number to me. I have no idea as far as value and I am dying to VAM it. Does anyone know the value or where I could find information? Is the die leg...

Grey Sheets VAM listings
I just saw that the Grey Sheets have VAM pricing by grade now. 23 of the 78 8tf as an example. This could help increase VAM interest. The impact on values??

OT - ACCUGRADE Holder with a 1943S Walker
I was checking out a bullion shop in town and happened to see an old Accugrade hard plastic holder with photo. It has an MS64 walking Liberty half dollar in it - the coin is very nice. They want $65 for it, which about what I think the coin is worth. Is there much of a premium for the ACCUGRADE hold...

Re: YOUR OPINION PLEASE
The CAT scan idea is interesting and got me thinking about using a Romer CMM. I just purchased a new one at work (only $75K). You could touch or check every critical point or dimension on a Morgan and evaluate it against a standard to measure the amount of wear... maybe. It will also "paint" the par...

Re: Collecting on the Darkside. Getting back on the horse after many years away.
I spend most of my vamming time looking on the dark side. Lots of never vammed coins available and they are incredibly cheap right now. I only look for the errors that interest me - hair breaks and facial errors on the obverse and eagle chest breaks and field gouges on the reverse. Peace dollar erro...
