Re: can an AU55 coin be PROOF LIKE

My experience is PCGS will not PL a coin unless it is MS60 or better. NGC will PL high AU coins but not sure about AU55. Not sure on ANACS, perhaps John can lend his insight.

Re: 1900-O O/CC VAM 8D

My understanding is new clashed designations need letter transfer and the 8B obverse letter transfer is consistent through EDS 8B, 8C, and LDS 8B. I’ll have to dig up the letter from Leroy on the LDS Vam 8B that I sent him. The 8C designation was not added due to removal of clashing but rather the a...

Re: PCGS Frustration

I have a 20 piece US silver invoice that was received by PCGS 3/23/23. 70 business days/99 calendar days later and it is still just scheduled for grading.
Quality and OTD are the generally accepted metrics of success. PCGS can’t hang their hat on either right now. Not a formula for success.

Re: PCGS Frustration

I share the frustration. In addition, I have seen quite a few QC issues. Forgetting to assign VAM’s, forgetting to capture the true view photos, missing obvious overmintmarks, wrong VAM designations, etc. Have seen these issues over the years but as of late I have yet to get an invoice back without ...

Re: 1921 Peace dollar

I think the ungraded coin has a shot at UNC. Hard to tell for me with the photos if there is wear on the high points. It is nicely struck but wear is wear.
2nd graded coin to me looks UNC although very poorly struck. I’m in the 62 camp.

Re: New VAM

Looks like the 1900-O Vam 15/15A. I had an example that was very pronounced post grease strike through that made it into a Mint Error TPG holder.

1900-O Bag Damage?

Looking for advice on whether you think this coin would straight grade or get body bagged for damage. Spacing looks right for a denticle ding from another Morgan. All comments welcome!

Can you provide LFCP’s? I’m leaning towards Vam 15 series.

Re: Dents in coins

I’ve always struggled with rim dings. I’ve had some straight grade and some not. I’ve been told as long as it’s not into the dentils then it should grade but that not always true.

Anyone have better criteria to judge by?

Re: OT Toning Help/Opinion

AT on both IMO. Those purples and blues with not much other color spectrums are usually bad news. I had to learn the hard way that just because a coin may get tagged as artificial doesn’t necessarily mean that it was in a literal sense. It’s more about market acceptable toning than the method in whi...
