Re: Got to VAM a set of 93s yesterday

Thanks Roger for your input. I only watched him weigh the 93-S and took his word about the other 93s and Morgans. I just enjoy looking at really nice Morgans.

Re: Got to VAM a set of 93s yesterday

The 93s arrived at PCGS this week along with 60+ other Morgans from this collection which I didn’t get to see. They were sigma tested and appeared genuine. The collection came from a deceased collector who acquired them from the dealer’s father in the 60s and 70s when he owned the store. I will say ...

Re: Got to VAM a set of 93s yesterday

I got to look at another AU 93-S he had that was easily identified as a fake. If this BU 93-S was a fake, they did an excellent job in replicating the two die scratches in the T of Liberty and in front of the first cotton leaf. The MM was spot on, too. That’s why I thought it was authentic. If someb...

Got to VAM a set of 93s yesterday

Visited my favorite local B&M yesterday. He knows I’m a VAM guy and I have found/bought a lot of coins there. He had just received a set of 93s, but was not buying them until sending them to PCGS to authenticate they weren’t fakes. They all weighed 410 grains and every other Morgan the customer had ...

Re: JB's 2023 submission, can post grades here.

Thanks JB for this service. I’m back looking at Morgans although I never really stopped. I’m looking a lot more in junk boxes and I’m surprised at what you can find. I’m also putting together a clashed G set since Lee sent back a couple of my DCs which are stoppers for that set…..00-O VAM 31C and 82...

SSDC registry additions?

Hi all! I still lurk on here a lot and continue the hunt for VAMs. As a few of you know, my passion has always been the clashers. I noticed that in SSDC registry the clashed G set is missing a couple. The 82-O VAM 32A and 00-O VAM 38D needed to be added. I might eventually create a set and would lik...

Re: Mark Kimpton Discovery Coin Collection

I’m not Steve, but I did consider buying the collection when Mark was offering. Knowing what the selling price was, I expected he was hoping for a little more. As Dennis pointed out, a lot of those DCs went for $80-100 which I would consider a good deal with that provenance.

Re: Mark Kimpton Collection at Stack's/Bowers

JB is correct except he didn’t sell his collection to Micheal Fey, but to someone else like me on this site who had an interest in clashed dies. I did consider at the time, but had 2 kids in college.

I do believe he sold the the rights to his book to Micheal Fey, but not much has come from that.

Alan, I remember your passion for that ANACS lanyard and the parties involved in the pursuit of one. BTW, I have an ANACS lanyard from years past. So you are telling me it’s a collectible now?

Re: My Almost 1st VAM Pick

http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1888-P_VAM-12B This certainly would qualify as an almost first VAM pick because it never really was a VAM. It was in my first submission to LVA and I had no idea what I was doing. It certainly created a stir at the time. Many good stories ...

Re: 1900-O VAM 38D

Thanks Lee for posting the pics, as I’m not good with IT. If any coin ever had a chance of a clashed E this one certainly did. Must not be there as the DC was MS and certainly could of been seen.

1900-O VAM 38D

This coin needs to be added to the clashed G SSDC set.

I found one in a junk box today in F-VF and thought I had found a new clashed G until Lee(ljs) rained on my parade. One of the coolest clashed coins next to the 1891-O VAM 14A

Re: Coins to car racing

Don’t have any race cars, but did buy my first “collectible” car last year….1961 Corvair Lakewood wagon. I got it from my uncle who bought it new then restored it in late 80s-90s. One of the most unique American cars ever made and Ralph Nader loved them. Looks brand new and gets lots of looks when I...

1900-O VAM 31C. Most strongly clashed G of any VAM and super rare.

Your welcome Alan. After seeing this post I figured you would appreciate this VAM more than me. It was one of my favorite DCs next to the 1900-O VAM VAM 31C which also found a new home this week.
