I don't recognize it, Dennis.
BTW I think the VAM 1BN and 1BP might be the same thing...

Indeed, VAM 9 LDS. That scratch isn't there on EDS examples of VAM 9.

Re: 1921-P D2 polishing (VAM 3DV EDS)
Thank you, Dennis! That's it, VAM 3DV. I guess I was confused as this VEDS example lacks any of the feed finger gouges or breaks shown on that page. But it does seem to be a match.

Re: 1921-P D2 polishing mystery
It really is nicely prooflike. Here's a scribbles photo. They're a bit of a kaleidoscope, in that they vary with angle. The most distinctive thing to me is that stuff going on to the left of the leg:

1921-P D2 polishing (VAM 3DV EDS)
Hey, while we're looking at mysterious 1921-P examples... Got this one from GC weekend before last. It had really interesting polishing almost all over it which I didn't recognize. It's particularly strong on the lower left reverse. Still can't seem to place it. I can try to post more detailed photo...

I agree with JB that this looks like it's an LDS VAM 86.

Re: Before Morgans, Seated, Bust, ...
Hey, let's not forget the French ecu! Along with the eight reales, the ecu was monetized as a dollar in 1806. In that light, I just picked up a "very early CC dollar" or as PCGS called it a )(. The mint location is in Besançon and their mintmark was two nested Cs: weth_1710_ecu.jpg weth_1710_ecu_rev...

Re: Morgan 1921-P VAM-1BA === VAM-1Z
Interesting! I agree that the VAM 1BA appears to be an EDS of VAM 1Z. Hopefully someone with nicer examples than mine can address this with LVA. I don't have a 1BA, and both my 1Z are LDS / post clash / no clear sign of any of the die scratches.

Interesting. I don't think it's a match for the VAM 15, but I don't know what it is.

Re: 1921-P D2 reverse filled die
I usually gravitate toward attributing by cracks, but this one doesn't seem to have any.
That's a pretty grease-filled reverse example! Hope you can attribute it. Let us know what you find!

Re: 1921 P VAM 3FP photos
Aha. I had to check who started the thread and who was commenting. Seems like lured_in_again has the 3FP.
@lured_in_again It would be helpful to know if you see any sign of a break going from the wreath to the E in ONE on your 3FP as is shown on Dennis's coin?

Re: 1921 P VAM 3FP photos
I agree that the clashes appear similar between a 3GL2 and this 3FP discovery coin.

Good work, Dennis! Although, y'know, more holes in the 21P set now...
Is the 3HP a match for one of the D2 VNAs you already documented?

Re: Lamination vs. cracked planchet?
Interesting coin! Both lamination and cracked planchet errors refer to inherent flaws in the planchet prior to strike. The word "lamina" means a "thin layer of material" so a lamination error is typically when a thin layer of material is separating and the defect is primarily in the horizontal layer...

Re: 1921-P with nice N-clash
Hi Dennis, No, neither of my examples have any trace of either die break, nor the gouges at the A; one of them, though, has an otherwise interesting small struck-thru area at that same A. It's also the "VAM 3FF discovery coin" if that's ever of interest for the sake of reference and comparison. Tom ...

Wow, if this is where VAMs are in general, now's the time to BUY, BUY, BUY!!!!! I feel guilty for the price I just paid for the 78-P V165... There’s usually strong demand for high grade examples, but a lot of times lower grade examples can go for cheap, it’s true. That’s why I point these out to my...
