Certainly that die pair is not easy to find. It is in a lot better shape than the DC. Congrats!!!

Re: 1898-P far date?
Couple of ways to look at this. The date is in the normal position, albeit right within normal. Personally, I wouldn't even call it far right within normal. That being said, as a normal date and no other listable markers, I would call it a VAM-1. But, with 5.9M coins minted and only 14 base VAMs lis...

Re: 1896 O VAM-28B die rotation
Yes, the die progression on this series of sub-VAMs is listed in the correct order. V28-28A-28B. LVA had all 3 examples in hand when he revised the V28 listing for the V28A and V28B. Once you get a V28A in hand, you can see the progression in the die cracks. I can't check the minor die rotation on t...

It is a show I normally would try to get to when I was in St. Louis. Having moved makes it harder to justify. But I will be in Appelton WI that week on business

I would like to pose a "Trade Challenge". The two parties involved with this squabble should talk on the phone and do this behind the iron curtain.

While I exclusively use ANACS for my purposes, the suggestions about new holders and website will likely just result in higher fees.

Re: Quick 1934-S darkside question - maching doubling or bad eyes or other?
Gary, just speaking from my own experience, Peace dollars to the untrained eye can show signs of "doubling" all over the place. I don't know your history with Peace dollars, but I had the same thoughts about "doubling" when I first started looking at them. I learned fast however.

1924-P VAM-8A Die State?
Picked this up for common money. Coin looks UNC but I suck at grading Peace dollars admittedly.
Question is, where would this coin fit in the break progression? EDS, MDS, LDS?

Re: BUYERS BEWARE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A well known chister by most. But along the way I did pick up a few coins in his slabs for cheap. As long as you understand that the coins in his holders should be treated as raw coins, you should be fine. Just don't get drawn in to the hype of the listings.

Re: A SWEET BUY Oh SH__
I was at a FUN show a while back. I stopped at a dealers table and asked to look at his raw 1902-O Morgans in 2x2 holders. He gave me a stack of like 6 coins. As I was going thru them, I noticed one was actually a 1903-O coin labeled 1902-O with a $50 price tag on it. I was stunned. I handed it back...

From my painful experience, I suggest you collect Trade Dollars with caution. I would not buy anything unless it is an a TPG holder. Even then you can get burned. There are many, many great fakes out there.

All the above coins that are not sold or on hold have gone to auction either at HA or GC. Coins I did not list here are included. No idea when they will list.

Re: 1904-O VAM-28A and VAM-32 observation
There was a VAM-e issued on this subject if you are interested and can find it.
It was dated March 19, 2011 Volume 8 Issue 7, entitled, "Where is the 1904-O Missing Link?"
It will provide more insight and background.

Re: 1904-O VAM-28A and VAM-32 observation
You have stumbled across one of the conundrums of the 1904-O series. The best explanation is this: An anomaly in the series involves the VAM-32. Both obverse and reverse dies were involved in clash episodes at some point in time. However, the rotation of the reverse clash marks in relation to the ob...
