Re: Silver Dollar 1904 O
I remember a time when I sent a 1902-O to Leroy and mentioned a coin I sent him had a doubled profile. His response was something like, "when is a doubled profile a doubled profile?" The subject coin demonstrates two things to me. One is the listings are and were necessarily brief and do not mention...

Re: Silver Dollar 1904 O
Generally we ask for folks to try and attribute coins themselves. Can I assume you have done so?

The market will decide on this endeavor. For slab/plastic collectors, now is the time to get one.

It all depends on perspective. It seems when I try to help, some take it well and some don't.

Hey Unc, not sure what you are talking about. I usually just say whats on my mind and cut to the chase with VAM questions when I can.

Re: 1891-CC VAM-3 (or is it - HELP!)
The 1891-CC series has been reviewed exhaustively. When that is the case, it is best to put the coin aside and follow expert advice. Put a little white sticker on it and label it VAM-3 and move on.

Re: 1885-S VAM-6 Denticle Impressions?
You have that correct. Usually happens on Dennis' 21 photos, and that is real, not a cut. For some reason his photos, sometimes, makes my brain wacko. But he does take great photos.

Re: 1885-S VAM-6 Denticle Impressions?
I do not have the coin in hand. The angle of the lighting in the photo may have gotten me. I do suffer from dyslexia occasionally.

Re: 1878s VAM-109
It seems some folks just can't take the info provided, nor find a way to at least partially help themselves. You have had the 3 folks that know the 78-S VAMs like the back of their own hands. They have tried to help you, and several have asked for photos. which are non-existent from you. My comment ...

Re: 1885-S VAM-6 Denticle Impressions?
Thanks to all for the replies. I appreciate putting this to bed so quickly. To JB's point, apparently multiple appearances of the same coin is what got me. Must be occluded gas bubbles in the planchet. But regardless, your replies kept me from an even wilder goose chase.

1885-S VAM-6 Denticle Impressions?
Just checking. If anyone has a 85-S VAM-6, can you check the reverse upper tail feathers and see if your coin has the same "dots"? They look raised to me which means they are incuse on the die, and could be spaced the same as denticles, i.e., denticle impressions. I might add they are repeatable on ...

Re: Please consider for DISCOVERY
Let me try and help for once. What I do is look for die pairs, not VAMs. I try to identify the different obverse and reverse dies used, and different die pairs, some of which share dies with different die pairs. So while I am NOT trying to find examples of listed VAMs, a natural outcome is to see if...

Re: Please consider for DISCOVERY
You are free of course to post it here and ask for help. That is what this site is about. But immediately jumping to the "D" word is what gets me. I can buck it up, but I have been around the block a lot more times than you have. Enjoy this hobby and ignore folks like me if you choose.

Re: Please consider for DISCOVERY
Why is it that everything with new comers seems to be a new discovery? I encourage enthusiasm, but get tired of the constant "discovery?" question.

I kept this coin to go along with my H10 Scarface when I liquidated everything else about a year ago. Wanted the pair.

Re: Really Strange Luster
In the past, we pushed the idea of folks NOT posting pics of coins they do not have in hand. Many time once you get it, things look different. I would not be surprised if what you show in someone else's photo isn't holder reflection poop.

Re: 91-S: Friday night fight
Okay, so I will say the obvious. If your coin has XYZ PUPS that match the posted photos for a certain VAM, but has other "thingies" with no photos, that does not make it a new VAM. I have said this recently, if it walks like a duck, swims like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it's a duck.

A fine and often subjective balance between listable and non-listable attributes. Thankfully, our lovely guides and experts have helped make it as clear as possible - in the big book, at http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compu ... m/wiki/VAM and http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compu ... bution_10...
