Re: 1921-s vam 1B3A PCGS 63 Thorn Head

Having done this for over 20 years, I often find it amusing when VAM values come up. If you get into this hobby to make money, you will be sorely disappointed. As an example, name one person who SOLELY makes their income off of VAMs. Think hard before you answer.

Just a friendly reminder that info from the "big book" is copyrighted. Unless things have changed, we are not supposed to scan and post images from the copyrighted material.

Maybe the administrator can clarify or expand.

I started counting peacock feathers at the zoo because of this. Got lost in the shuffle.

Re: For Newbies: Beware of coins graded in Various slabs with irreputable names

Whatever happened to "buy the coin, not the holder"? If you trust a holder, from any slabbing service, you can be disappointed. Conversely, great coins can hide in holders also. While this type of post can be helpful to some, you need to know the coins.

Okay, I will play devil's advocate. With a M/M set apparently high, how does this get a VAM-1? Others will likely ask so thought I would.

Re: MY POSTING RIGHTS

My suggestion to everyone is to just let these two have it out at their leisure. If you don't want to get distracted by their posts, don't look. They will never see eye to eye anyway. It is the never ending battle of mistruth, unjustice, and the unamerican way.

For this discussion to be meaningful, the definition of "high" or "significant" premium needs to be defined.

Re: Silver Dollar 1904 O

I remember a time when I sent a 1902-O to Leroy and mentioned a coin I sent him had a doubled profile. His response was something like, "when is a doubled profile a doubled profile?" The subject coin demonstrates two things to me. One is the listings are and were necessarily brief and do not mention...

Generally we ask for folks to try and attribute coins themselves. Can I assume you have done so?

The market will decide on this endeavor. For slab/plastic collectors, now is the time to get one.

It all depends on perspective. It seems when I try to help, some take it well and some don't.

Hey Unc, not sure what you are talking about. I usually just say whats on my mind and cut to the chase with VAM questions when I can.

Re: 1891-CC VAM-3 (or is it - HELP!)

The 1891-CC series has been reviewed exhaustively. When that is the case, it is best to put the coin aside and follow expert advice. Put a little white sticker on it and label it VAM-3 and move on.

You have that correct. Usually happens on Dennis' 21 photos, and that is real, not a cut. For some reason his photos, sometimes, makes my brain wacko. But he does take great photos.

I do not have the coin in hand. The angle of the lighting in the photo may have gotten me. I do suffer from dyslexia occasionally.

Re: 1878s VAM-109

It seems some folks just can't take the info provided, nor find a way to at least partially help themselves. You have had the 3 folks that know the 78-S VAMs like the back of their own hands. They have tried to help you, and several have asked for photos. which are non-existent from you. My comment ...
