Re: 1902-O VAM-4B Photos for Page

Here is a "sunken" or "crumbled" die pair list for future reference. This could be added to the 1902-O front page if desired.

1902-O VAM-4B Photos for Page

I had a very recent inquiry about a certain 1902-O coin. Sounded like it was a VAM-4B. The caller said they had checked the 1902-O pages several times and couldn't match it up to anything. While the near date, C4 reverse and obverse die crumbling around the periphery of the coin are drop dead die ma...

Thanks for the update. From what I can tell, this die pair is very hard to locate. Congrats.

Re: Blanchard Holder

I have a 1902-O VAM-67 in a Blanchard holder that is a counterfeit. You can tell by the C3 reverse. Of course it says authentic.

Re: 1904-O VAM 16 Or not?

Kurt, not sure what you are getting at. Both photos you show are from the same obverse die. If you accept the fact that all 1904-O die pairs have been flushed out, then the question becomes what VAM is shown on the VAM-16 page? Since you apparently have a coin that matches the obverse photo on the V...

Re: way OT but wondering....

Just stabs in the dark. It looks like a utensil for a formal type dinner, assuming it is silver. Looks to be something you would "screw" into for culinary purposes. 1. Some sort of fruit plugger, like a watermelon or apple corer. 2. Meat poker when grilling to check wellness, or just pick it up off ...

What Roger said. I have been doing this since 2002. I have always said POPs go up as time goes on, prices go down accordingly. I could give many examples, but not necessary. The rule of supply and demand still stands.

Re: 1902O VAM35 images

I believe the coin you photo'd is a VAM-45 Die Pair #1. Pretty sure the VAM-35 was a generic listing when attributed by Leroy and has since been turned into a red-haired step-child with subsequent listings.

The crag and eagle's feet have more definition on the 1921.

False alarm. The blue thread-like is exactly what it appears. A loose thread stuck inside the plastic capsule and not on the coin.

Re: Check 2021-D Morgans for strike-thrus

Got my two 2021-Ds today. Not sure if this is anything. Looks like a loose thread on the coin. I have not opened the plastic capsule to poke it with stick yet. Looks like a no-nothing from here.

Re: 2021 Morgan O

Interestingly enough, the 2nd example I got does not show the beveling. I did take the coin out of the plastic holder to get the photo shown above. It looks more beveled in hand with a 10x loupe than the photo shows.

Re: 2021 Morgan O

By the way. The mint packaging looks cartoonist. The coins themselves are less than impressive. In another time, they would be called cast counterfeits and privately made.

Re: 1902-O Morgan Dollar possible VAM 1???

Your coin matches the base attributes of the VAM-52. But can't tell for sure. Would need clearer photos of certain aspects of your coin if possible. The VAM-52 is a common 02-O. here is an attribution guide for the 1902-O Filled 2 die pairs.

Re: Die life for 1897 - San Francisco

Based on what I have seen, one obverse die was married to 5 different reverse dies. Likely this could have been obverse die #37 with a mintage of 872,793 coins. I think JR calls this type of die a "widow maker" die. This obverse die was polished several times between die pairs. Kinda mind blowing to...

Re: 1902-O VAM?

Just a reminder. The VAM Plate on the VAM-15 page is actually a VAM-21 die marker. The scrathes/gouges shown on the second photo only show up in the MDS, not the EDS.
