Re: Die life for 1897 - San Francisco

Based on what I have seen, one obverse die was married to 5 different reverse dies. Likely this could have been obverse die #37 with a mintage of 872,793 coins. I think JR calls this type of die a "widow maker" die. This obverse die was polished several times between die pairs. Kinda mind blowing to...

Re: 1902-O VAM?

Just a reminder. The VAM Plate on the VAM-15 page is actually a VAM-21 die marker. The scrathes/gouges shown on the second photo only show up in the MDS, not the EDS.

Not sure what the significance of the "dot" is, or whether it matters in any manner.

But my V9 clashed has it.

"Hey Wayne, one other change please.
Swap the mint mark photos at the bottom of the "Additional Photos" section. Thanks."

No never mind. I figured out how to do it myself. Thanks anyway. :P

Re: 1892-S VAM-8 Die Pair 1 and Die Pair 2

Wayne, looks great except for one thing.

The last photo "Additional Photos" should be titled to merely show the doubled upper tail feathers without any reference to polishing lines.

Thanks again.

Re: 1892-S VAM-8 Die Pair 1 and Die Pair 2

I suspect the polishing lines Leroy references on the reverse die may be planchet striations. They are not on any other VAM-8 Die Pair 2 reverse coins I have run across. But the doubled upper tail feathers are cool. Regardless, the M/M placement and doubled upper tail feathers are the tale-of-the-ta...

Also, here are close-ups of the M/M placement between the two reverse dies. The first is Die Pair 1, the second is Die Pair 2.

Let's try these scans of the VAM Plates. Wayne, if these look okay, go ahead and update the pages. I appreciate it.

1892-S VAM-8 Die Pair 1 and Die Pair 2

This has been discussed some time ago on this forum. The 92-S VAM-8 obverse die was used with two different reverse dies. You can see the difference in the mint mark placement on the LFCPs on the VAM page here. The 1892-S VAM-8 is a Hit List 40 coin with doubled/tripled Liberty's lower hair curls. I...

Re: Inventory Reduction Sale

The 4 folks that met at the Hyatt downtown STL were Dave, Lewis, Mike (Remmy) and me. We picked it so Dave didn't have to drive too far from his workplace in IL across the river. Forget how long ago it was. That being said, I am in Orlando currently (and permanently) digging the new Scott Dungeon :g...

I have one that is a 1882-P Morgan. Got as a gift from Doug Codner. This newspaper clipping came with it. Looks to be circa 1973.
