Re: Doing a little deeper dive into 1891 o - VAMs 14, 14a and 20
Appreciate the efforts to help unravel this progression. It looks to me like a worn 14A. This may sound wacky, but when I tilt my head to the right. it looks like I might be able to a hint of the gouge in there, worn down like the other pick up points??? ..... LOL But then I am kind of wacky for stu...

Re: 1891-CC VAM-3 (or is it - HELP!)
Often the vertical edge (relief) of date or lettering can appear to be doubling due to it being slanted rather than exactly vertical. (due to numbers and letters being wider where they hit the flat face of the coin than at the top --- if that makes sense) And as said, the option of strike doubling e...

Re: Interesting Seated Obstruction Error
Will be interesting to see the result. Before it was submitted, would have been nice to see the half with a half dime placed on top of the obstruction area for comparison of size. Also, how does the thickness of the obstruction compare to a half dime. I realize photos can make it hard to make compar...

Failure to upgrade, or is it
In my efforts to upgrade my 1891 o set, I recently purchased a VAM 18 in an ANACS holder. Turns out it is VAM 25 which was a discovery coin of mine from 2013. VAM 18 was discovered in 2009. The on line auction photos made it difficult to note any differences (which are very minor) in those 2 VAMs. A...

Welcome to the site... a good place to start http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/Attribution_101 Most of the regulars will say to begin with the date position and mint mark position. Most of the listings by date/mm will have subheadings to sort by features. http://ec2-13-58-...

Re: 1889-P VAM-23 Missing Link has been found
One of the things most difficult to do.... find the original VAM of a series or the discovery coin. I'm still hunting the elusive 1891 o VAM 14 to try and close the VAM tree for my study. Looking forward to your photos....

Re: Forrest Fenn Treasure FOUND...
Not that I was looking for it, but 1st time I have come across one of the pieces up for sale. (my usual search of 1891 date) Since it is buy it now, no harm posting it? Seller has several of the items listed, just thought it interesting as a couple years have passed since the treasure was found. Loo...

Betting most of these coins photos can be found on a past auction site. Looks like a scam to me.....https://www.ebay.com/sch/ous3298/m.html ... 3561.l2562

Nice example. I didn't realize the amount of polish lines on these, probably due to all of my thornhead finds being well circulated.

Last coin posted appears to be VAM 1a4, not seeing the swelling beginning above the olive branch leaves.

Re: 1921-S Vam 1B4C (new stage) Thorn or Thornhead (new variety)
I guess this is what threw me off / from initial posting above..... " The new Vam 1B4C OB is unchanged from the 1B4B. But, the Vam 1B4C is the first use of the Rev Of D2a" Do earlier coins in the sequence have a different reverse die?
