Re: Need to pick Wayne's Brain? 1889-P

NOT a 19B2
The clashing of a 19B2 is fantastic.
Lean a different direction. :D
Good luck

Pictures are downloading. Very old and slow laptop and camera. Will post them today. Hopefully someone can help me figure it out.
Wow, Brian not knowing the VAM.
This should be interesting.
Looking forward to seeing the photos

Re: Help with date placement

Very good exhaustive work.

I will continue to follow George Mallis & Leroy Van Allen's directions for date locations.
The attached photo is their method for assigning date locations from the Encyclopedia of Morgan & Peace Dollars.

Re: G.C. St-G varieties and lots of VAMs

The LN is Vam 26 LDS Thank you for joining the thread. Your attribution skill is fantastic. Yes, we both know that is a VAM-26. I'm sorry that my point wasn't clear. Great Collections will not list a VAM without a TPG attribution on the label or a VSS attribution sticker. So, this VAM-26 is not lis...

Re: G.C. St-G varieties and lots of VAMs

5 days until the sales are final. I'm surprised that more people haven't tracked the unattributed 78-S Long Nock or the 88-O oval O. They may not be the highest grade, but then again Long Nocks are not usually very highly graded. There are some really super buys on some really good VAMs at this poin...

Re: Help with date placement

Take a look at the photo. It should help you. You should see that another half of a denticle to the right is where the far dates usually start. This photo is on the Attribution 101 page under the heading of date placement. http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/Attribution_101 ...

Re: OT; Thanksgiving Break

I did some research in the Heritage archives: BB-168 (R4). Finest known examples are two AU50s. Here's the writeup from a 2005 Heritage auction for a PCGS-25 example, when the rating was R5: "This is a rare die variety and is in demand by specialists both for its rarity and for the horizontal die b...

What is that one called... the Decapitated Eagle"?
Not sure what to call it besides mine.
Maybe others have a good name for it?

Re: 1901 O BOLD letter doubling on V 1A / 20

Correct, but two clashes can happen without a coin being struck between them. In that scenario, wouldn’t that mean that there is no MDS? EDS would be the two t transfer. LDS would be the full t transfer. Lee, this was the point of me calling the OP an EDS... As far as I know there haven't been any ...

Re: 1901 O BOLD letter doubling on V 1A / 20

Why would it be an EDS if it is clashed twice with two t transfers? One t transfer should be the EDS. Or better yet, as JB alluded to, break it into three different listings for each t transfer. Above my paygrade to decide, but the clashes could have happend in such a rapid fashion that there was n...

Re: 1901 O BOLD letter doubling on V 1A / 20

If we can agree it had to have had one clash before a second clash, then it would mean that the EDS is the single clashed t, and two t transfers would be the MDS.
Both t transfers cannot have happened during a single clash event.
It doesn’t matter how rare a single t may or may not be.
