Re: 1878-S Update Complete
Sounds like two different obverse dies both clashed with that reverse. Mark Witkower has been doing an 1879 study for some time and I know there is a lot to be fixed with this date, this being one thing. I'll have to contact him and see if he's sufficiently untangled this date that it's time for th...

Re: 1878-S Update Complete
John, thanks for all you do for the hobby. When you get a chance would you look into the 1879 VAM 14A die 1 and die 2. I sent the VAM 14A die 2 that added the clashed "st" to Leroy. Leroy's Revision Letter he is attached to the listing. I didn't understand it then and I still can't wrap my mind arou...

I like the 1879-S Vam 29 and the 1880 Vam 19B. There so much going on with those two coins you have to wonder how the mint workers overlooked them.

Anyone else notice that the 2023-S Proof Silver Eagle has more of cameo appearance than the West Point version?

Re: 1879 S VAM 29 + (the plus revealed)
I think the most important question would be , do you think it is a positive ? despite all the lists , and the values and the rarity , do you think it's cool ?????.... that tidbit that @LateDateMorganGuy shared on here a while back that read something like "collect what you like and like what you c...

Re: 1879 S VAM 29 + (the plus revealed)
Tough call on whether it's a positive or negative thing. I find the VAM more exciting than the strike-thru, so would buy it for that and the strike-thru would be a bonus, but not one I'd pay for, sort of like getting an extra cherry in my brandy old fashioned. Were this on a generic 79-S, it would ...

Re: 1879 S VAM 29 + (the + reveal)
Would you consider this massive struck thru completely obliterating the "O" of DOLLAR a positive or negative for this tough to find coin?

Re: 1880-P VAM-19B
I believe the 1880 VAM 19B is a very tough coin. Not being a list coin probably holds back it's true raritty value. I too would be interested in any known sales.

Here is my ANACS XF40 1N3 labeled VAM 1N3 VLDS. Very similar to the VLDS pictured in the additional photos section of the attribution page. Hope this helps,

Re: Any luck at Heritage last night?
A lot of VAMs sold last night, including several bargains IMO. I got the 1878 7TF VAM 166 PCGS VF35 CAC – a variety I feel is perpetually underappreciated for how tough it is. It made John Roberts' "A Dozen VAMs for 2023" list and while his comment about it was "no longer impossible to acquire", go...

Nice, I have never run across one of those. They seem to be a lot scarier than the 87-O VAM 30A.
