Re: Taking A Break

Having gone through a massive heart attack over Christmas with 16 days in the hospital and now 6 months later feeling good and coming back strong, I want to say to you, keep your spirits up and know time is your friend. No matter how crappy you feel, you will emerge from it feeling like your old sel...

"Nothing you can do to fix it. A mailing list was harvested from somewhere, one of the addresses was used as the spoof address and the rest used as destinations."

Yup, I have a friend who died four years ago and I still get emails from him.

$50 bucks for a chance at $4,000. I don't think so! What are my odds given a certain number of others looking for it?

Re: just won this 80 p . Should I look for anything

Jason, it's always a VERY good idea not to post pics of the coin until you have it in hand. I, as well as many other here, have posted a pick only to have the seller suddenly pull the coin and refund your $$. And that sucks, in the bad way... It is also very difficult to see the features of the coi...

Re: is leroy available to play with coins yet?

Having a 92 year old mother and dealing with a lot, I can sympathize with Leroy. It takes a lot out of you to constantly be taking care of someone. I agree, it seems like they moved into assisted living and that should help Leroy a lot. Having meals brought in and usually they do a bit of cleaning w...

Re: VW coinpictures

I do believe picture taking is not that hard with some basic equipment. To take basic pictures I would buy a Digital SLR camera with a zoom lens such as 18-55 with image stabilizer and automatic focus. There are many out there for reasonable prices. The bay is full of them. All you have to do is mak...

Re: is leroy available to play with coins yet?

If one is concerned with Leroy's lack of time to process coins, one can send them to JB (messydesk) at VSS and get them attributed. If JB decides they are already VAMs he will identify them and slab them. If newly discovered VAMs then they can go to Leroy and JB is good at describing what appears to...

Re: Where were we in 1981

Put me down for Boeing stock in 1970 when I was laid off. Stock was $5 a share and has split so many times since then. As a young single buck I had quite a bit of money saved up which I could have used. Isn't hindsight fun?

Scott, your other Oregon collector would love to photograph one for posting here. Let me know when they are done and if you can trust me send one and I'll photo it and send it back. Such an accomplishment should be shared with pics as well as text. Bob

OT The Squirrel says:

The Squirrel says Remember all who have fallen this Memorial Day. sqirral.jpg Memorial Day in the United States—an underappreciated holiday. Look at the sacrifice that Americans made in defending us. The American revolution started it all — 8,000 killed – 25,000 wounded. A few years later, the War o...

I’m still trying to get my first new find, As a newbie, just one is all I want! Now we all can't believe you as we remember well the first one and then the drive to find the second, and the third, and the fourth, etc. When that coin comes back from the TPG with a label saying "Discovery Coin" the f...

Re: VAM of the Week! Sorry!

Thanks for all the comforting comments. I sometimes wonder why some people just flop over and die whereas people like myself live on. Trust me it was violent and damaged the heart. I probably should have died. Doc says with exercise the heart will get back a lot of what it lost. I am thankful to be ...

VAM of the Week! Sorry!

I have missed a number of weeks at getting a VAM of the Week up BUT I have a good excuse. Had an operation on November 7th and as I was recovering from that I had a massive heart attack. Was in the hospital for 16 days over Christmas while they buzz sawed me open and did multiple bypasses. I'm okay ...

300+ VAMs on the bay

Put a number of nice coins up - both Morgan and Peace - Some graded, some not! There is a wide assortment throughout the 80s, lots of 78s both P & S mints, a few 21 D "Fun with 21" listed, and a number of 1882-O 38B in different grades up to a beautiful MS 65. Peace has a Pony tail, ear ring. extra ...

Re: What is good about a digital camera>

I concur with the Indian. I also use a Celestron for many closeups. And I use my Canon for full coin shots. Lighting truly is the issue for many shots. I like to lay my coins sometimes in a window sill where good light is but not direct light from the sun. I also bought off the bay some cheap backin...

Re: Hypothetical question

About two years ago, I found a dealer on the bay who was selling a bunch of Morgans all graded but not attributed by ICG. I used to monitor this dealer because he knew nothing about VAMs. I bought 5 1882-0 VAM 32B all in high MS which is a nice VAM. The grading was accurate as they have been crossed...
