Re: difference between die scratch and die gouge?
When does a bottle become a jar, or a cap a lid? Easy to differentiate at the extremes, but where is the line (if it exists).

Here's some better pics. The ear has doubling, but no gouge under the ear or below the nose or on the wing across from AM on the reverse.

I will check the details.
Then shouldn't VAM-11 be added to the Over-buffed Reverse Die List?

1890-O - VAM 1E, 13A or 14A?
I picked up an 1890-O in a NGC holder unassigned. I thought it was a 1E, but the mint mark location doesn't match, and it doesn't seem to match 13A or 14A. Am I missing something? I have pics of the piece, then crops of the MM location and Date from the three varieties. Am I completely off? It looks...

Good pick-ups for little money, and in good condition to boot.

Awesome! Thanks. Is there a list somewhere on how to find these "hidden" pages? It isn't listed in the directory.PacificWR wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2019 12:06 amClick on the link below for Over Buffed Dies. The list may not be up to date:

List of worn/over-polished dies?
Is there a list of VAMs of coins struck from worn-out or over-polished dies, like 1883-O VAM 52A? Having my own press and minting tokens I have been fascinated by things that can still be struck from dies that should have been retired long ago. I have purchased dollars when I see them, and would lik...

The coin doesn't show a doubled profile, to die scratches/polish at "In God We Trust".

Re: Bugs Bunny Question
The Bugs Bunny variety is not an error, it is a variety. The die was clashed, but that is not a production error.

Re: 1881-O VAM ID?
Thanks Hawkeye. This has been a head scratcher for me. The thing that stood out for me was the die scratch above the M in AMERICA. Not a whole lot of other things I can see as PUPs. I'm pretty new at VAMs, so I have a lot to learn.

Re: 1881-O VAM ID?
Here are photos after I broke it out of the slab. I notice some doubling on some of the letters in LIBERTY, as well as weak inner wing feathers.
Thanks for the help guys!
