The confusion about no pitting around the mintmark might be that the photo in the VAMWorld V-8 listing has a photo of the V-8A that has the pitting. So, anyone who looks at the V-8 listing sees an O/CC with pitting.
The Full Coin photo at the bottom of the listing is a VAM-8 with no pitting.

Isn't the VAM-8 the one that has no die pitting around the mintmark?
The V-8A has the die pitting.
The V-8B has the die pitting with obverse and reverse die clashing.
The V-8C has the die pitting with obverse clashing, reverse die polishing but no reverse die clashing.

I should have checked my notes because there is some interesting info about the V-112.
Back in November of last year Clay Christiansen said that he believes the V-112m and V-88 have the same obverse.
Maybe Clay will notice this topic and give his opinion.

I looked at wrong line -- tbconcrete has a MS 62 V-112.

Need to have tbconcrete check out his MS61 V-110.

The 1st edition VAM book by Leroy Van Allen& A. George Mallis did not have photos of 78-S VAM-16. The 1st edition only listed 78-S VAMs 1 to 11. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th editions had V-16 photos and one of the reverse photos was with the die gouge on the field. So, the gouge on the field has been known...

Provide photos of the various die states of V-109.
There are plenty of VAM folks here that will give opionions.

In my notes I have order of production as 109, 100, 65, 10.
Don't have notes on what attributes were used to determine this order or where I saw this order.

The II8 obverse of the V-109 is shared with V-10, V-65, and V-100.
My 109 has a very noticeable eye spike.
My V-100 and V-65 have the same noticeable spike but shorter than V-109.
My V-10 is low grade (F12), and I cannot see a spile.
In the photos V-109 and V-65 it looks like two spikes.

Some in 64 and very hard to find in 65.
